Extended Metaphor
24 10 2009My room is my life, where
Dust from years before
Compiles into bunnies under my bed
They don’t hop away
But come out of the rabbit hole whenever they may
My room is my life, where
Stacks of green, yellow, pink, blue paper
Form rainbow grasslands and thick jungles
Scraps and intact 8.5×11’s
Ink’s words given and taken
My room is my life, where
Ants run rampant
Hiding from summer love
Carrying pieces of me from the floor
And taking them out my mind’s door
My room is my life, where
Dirty dishes pile up
Balancing on fragile foundations
A careless loving touch
Is always much too much

Love Poem
24 10 2009As long as I can still hear
And the speakers don’t blow out
I will still love you
As long as the people keep creating
And have feelings to tell
Then your voice will resonate
Putting me in the best and worse moods
Emotionally flexible
But at least I know you love nonetheless
Even when you’re angrybouncyhappysad
I love you just the same
You’re more human than flesh
Blood and bone

Partner Rap
24 10 2009Just because I am Latin
Doesn’t mean I can rhyme
Dear Miss Delaney
This project is insane-y
We cannot rap
That’s pretty much crap
Since we are more partial
To rock
And at times
Chopin and Bach
We don’t skill
To make you shrill
Like a hip-hop fan
And Jonas band
Peoples
I prefer music
Played in steeples
We are trying our best
To pass this creativity test
Grace is discussing
Oral sex on Dr. Phil
It’s pretty chill
Gives me my daily news fill
Aren’t my friends great?
I think they’re first rate
As we discuss our lack of men
Since most still act like they are ten
Maybe if we brought the human beat box
But she’s harder to catch than a fox
So we might as well present
This bad attempt
And hope you won’t see us
With too much contempt

Fairytale Rap
18 10 2009Because this story
Is straight up gory
‘Cause little girls
That sing too loud
In open crowds
Get followed
Then by creepers
Bodies borrowed
Bodies borrowed
And little Red
Did melt in bed
A big bad boy
Who saw her
As a fun new toy
But no one was there
To ease her scare
‘Cause grandma and mama
Did too much, ayo
So glass pipe, yayos
Don’t help screaming girls
With bleeding pearls
Borrowed bodies
Borrowed bodies
Ain’t no parties
Ain’t no parties
Lumber jacks
Ch-ch-chopping wood
Hears shrill screaming
That sounds anything but good
Little girls
With borrowed bodies
Borrowed bodies
Ain’t no party
Ain’t no party
So plaid shirt man
Ran as fast, as fast as he can
To see a sight
That was anything but right
And blood did shed
Upon this bed
And held safe from harms
In stranger’s arms
Memories
Of borrowed bodies
Borrowed bodies
Ain’t no party
Ain’t no party
For little girls
With tainted red painted frills
Because this story
Is straight up gory
‘Cause little girls
That sing too loud
In open crowds
Get followed
Then by creepers
Bodies borrowed
Bodies borrowed
And little Red
Did melt in bed

Fantastical Narrative
18 10 2009On the smooth roads of a green-lawned valley
I rode my new mahogany-colored mare
My friends rode too far ahead
And I was too far behind.
On the smooth roads of a green-lawned valley
My new mahogany-colored mare stumbled
I fell down onto my delicate knees
And my princess’s skin met pavement.
On the smooth roads of a green-lawned valley
I stood up as fast I had fallen
My princess’s composure had faltered
And I hoped none of the royalty had seen.
On the smooth roads of a green-lawned valley
I got back on my new mahogany-colored mare
Waved over to the friends who had left me behind
And I continued my best to ride on.
On the smooth roads of a green-lawned valley
Lady Sophie came to deliver news
“Sir James did see thee eat pavement”
And as quickly as I had gotten up, my heart did fall.
On the smooth roads of a green-lawned valley
My heart in my stomach and a lump in my throat
My coffee knight in shining armor was witness to my fall
And an awkward princess I was once more.
On the smooth roads of a green-lawned valley
Knees as bruised as my confidence
I walked alongside my new mahogany-colored mare
And I watched as he rode away on his Rasta steed.

The Death of a Planet
17 10 2009Alone at the edge of this galaxy
Just like many feel on the darkest of nights
But you, kind sir, see nothing but
Because the sun is oh so far away
The smallest of nine children
You’re the runt of the litter
But larger than life it still seemed
Apparently we were mistaken
The scientists proved us wrong
Took the astronomy textbooks we knew
Ripped you out of them, page by page
They may as well have just been more direct
And destroyed you entirely
Asking to forget what you are
Is like asking to forget the fifth grade
It doesn’t matter what they say
If midgets are indeed humans
Then you, my dear, Pluto
You, are a planet.

A Response to War and Violence
17 10 2009An ordinary school day
Just like any other
Up until the kid in the back
Stands up
The four rows in front
Twist their necks
And the ones on either side
Lift their heads from the desks
He grabs his bag
“Sit down young man”
And walks out into the hall
Out the front doors
Across the football field
To the bleachers where
They hang out instead of learning
“What are you doing here?”
Bang! Bang!
Screams his backpack
And away he runs
